You know, that "can't eat, can't sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, world series kind of love" that all engaged couples seem to be wrapped up in?
It's Bliss.
Is it only for that short time we're all giddy with excitement over the one we've chosen to spend the rest of our life with? Definitely not.
Sure, sharing life with another is not easy; we learn about our weaknesses really quickly, and when the little ones come along our bliss becomes a little more chaotic.
But it also becomes that much more meaningful.
Deeper.
Sweeter.
Richer.
I love how engagement sessions capture the sweetness between a couple so excited for their forever together. I love the real emotion, connection, and the beautiful locations we shoot it all in.
But I think we should do it more with married couples too.
I'm talking about the swooping her up in your arms, giving her a kiss on the forehead, and squeezing her hand tightly kind of photo session. Yes, I'm talking about the 45 year olds who have 5 kids, a couple extra pounds, and a few gray hairs. I think it's important that we capture this time in our lives when we cherish each other--even more than we did at first.
And oh how I would love to see more 80 year olds celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, holding each other close and capturing it for their posterity.
Why not?
So the next time you schedule a family photo session with your photographer, ask to take a few of just the two of you--with more authenticity than just a pose and a smile. Hold her hand, kiss her cheek, tell her you love her, and watch her really smile.
And if you're really up for it, schedule a photography session just for the two of you. Your posterity just might like to see them down the road.
And I think you'll be glad you did.
